The Ultimate Guide to Wilmington's Coffee Spots

Seems every year, there are new or expanding coffee shops coming to town, each with its own spin on the cuppa java we all crave.  Whether you are perking up the start of your day, add a little pick-me-up to your afternoon, or winding down with an end-of-day coffee cocktail, Wilmington is brimming with opportunities to enjoy a unique sip of this age-old beverage.

All Around Town:

Drift Coffee

With seven locations throughout the greater Wilmington area, it’s no doubt that Drift coffee has found a home. (They started in Ocean Isle and have since expanded to Raleigh and Chapel Hill.) A perfect place for meetings or gatherings with friends, Drift offers an expansive menu and table service, but also serves the quick stop carry out.  Find them downtown and at Autumn Hall, Mayfaire, Monkey Junction, Hanover Center, Porters Neck and Wrightsville Beach.

Downtown:

Hidden Grounds Coffee

A line often forms (but moves quickly) to assure you’ve found the right place.   Located at 21 S. Second Street downtown, Hidden Grounds is a reference to this charming café’s lush garden setting and patio.  It offers a beautiful outdoor atmosphere where locals and visitors alike sip their coffee, matcha, chai, and cold brew.  Kids will enjoy the T-rex that has taken up residence, as well, adding some quirk to the perk!

Note that a second location is planned at or near Wrightsville Beach.  For now the do have a recurring coffee cart pop-up at 7110 Wrightsville Ave.

Concorde Espresso Bar

“Caffeine at the speed of sound”  The original Concorde is located within Front Street Inn, downtown. The second location is in Porters Neck. Concorde is a café by morning, a cocktail lounge by night. (And “night” begins at 4 PM.) The menu features globally inspired drinks; the vibe is decidedly sophisticated with gracious gathering areas outside at both locations.

Bespoke

Located in the heart of downtown, Bespoke is a go-to for locals and visitors alike. Its sleek, modern vibe pairs beautifully with its Italian aperitivo menu. Bespoke promises to have Guinness and Negronis on tap as reliably as espresso and Americanos.  And in a nod to the traditional neighborhood bar and coffee shop, Bespoke is open seven days a week.

MIDTOWN

Blue Cup Roastery

In the heart of Wilmington’s Cargo District, Blue Cup serves up a fun community along with coffee roasted in-house. Sharing space with the Alcove Beer Garden, and situated among other creative retailers and crafters, Blue Cub provides a great indoor and outdoor destination for a little java, a little drinking, a little browsing, a little socializing – you get the picture.

Bean There Café

Opened its doors in May 2026 and is located in Cargo District East, along Wrightsville Ave. Already building a reputation  for locally roasted espresso, clean-label breakfast and lunch items, and in-house fresh baked goods.

Grinders Caffè

Grinders Caffè, located on South Kerr Ave, offers a cozy atmosphere, local art, and extensive menu with smoothies, lattes and baked goods.  With something for everyone to enjoy, Grinders also keeps it interesting with a different coffee flavor each day. Their iced drinks come with coffee ice cubes, so your brew never gets watered down.

Social Coffee Supply

Once a cute little house on Wrightsville Ave., Social Coffee Supply has transformed into a beloved Wilmington destination. With a modern, beachy vibe, this coffee shop is great for focused productivity or catching up with friends. Bonus: They give back to both local and global nonprofits — and they have a drive-thru!

Zola

Zola Coffee & Tea is located inside Wilmington's independent bookstore, Pomegranate Books, and it’s a very nice combination.  Zola offers pour-over coffee, loose leaf tea and herbal infusions, as well as North Carolina-made kombucha, and freshly made pastries.

Serving hot and cold brews, frappes and smoothies, B&B also offers a selection of fresh baked goods throughout the day.

Maven Coffee

Maven sources the finest microlots from Colombia and offers the coffee aficionado a most curated tasting and brewing experience.  Their specialty coffees are indeed curated by their expert team and made available after each harvest.

Beginner's Luck Coffee

A family-operated newcomer on Shipyard Blvd, Beginners Luck is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6 AM to 2 PM.

The Bake Shop by Three Friends Coffee

The local Three Friends team launched this neighborhood bakery and espresso bar where they serve fresh warm pastries, artisan breads, and handcrafted coffees and lattes. Located on Racine Drive.

Wrightsville Beach Area

The Workshop

Just steps from the beach, The Workshop draws local SCUBA divers, surfers and coffee lovers. While sipping, browse their shark teeth jewelry and enjoy their Megalodon teeth collection.  Definitely nails the beach vibe.

SUNday’s Surf Café

Sip a latte and catch the sunrise, or swing by at sunset for a cold beer. The menu is packed with options: coffee, kombucha, acai bowls, smoothies, pastries, and more. Dog friendly and just steps from the ocean – hard to beat.

Periwink

A women-owned coffee and gift shop.  Enjoy their specialty lattes  while browsing the creative selection of American-made greeting cards, stickers, stationery, and one-of-a-kind gifts

Slightly North of Town:

Casa  Blanca

Casablanca welcomes with an airy design, lush greenery, and indoor/outdoor space. Its bright interior and shady exterior offer great places to enjoy a cup with friends, colleagues, or a good book. Don’t miss their baked goods, including vegan options, which are made fresh daily and pair perfectly with their coffee menu.
